Honk honk!!!! None of this relaxing sailing any more - the wind is back! It
had been getting a little bit stronger every day for the past few days, and
today it hooned good and proper. Initially slightly overpowered on my 5.2
rigged three-quarters flat, but then flattened it off completely for the
last 15 minutes so that I was then just well well powered up. Could easily
have been on my 4.6. Think the boom will be transferred back onto it
tomorrow if conditions are the same, and the 5.2 will be put away for a
well-earned rest.
Being slightly overpowered but still in control, it was very much an
action-packed adrenaline fuelled crap yourself here we go session. Some
scarily fast broad-reaching over the swells and one or two huge jumps.
Pulled off a couple where you hit a nice big bit of swell and get airborne
over the big trough in the swell that opens up underneath you, leaving you
hanging there for a moment thinking "oh hello...I´m quite high up here..."
Unfortunately no real nice straight up vertical jumps today - the
waves/swell weren´t really co-operating properly for that. Gybing on the
outside wasn´t happening at all being so over-powered and in the huge
swell, and gybing on the inside was difficult because there were so many
people on the water, but still made most of them dry that I tried, and
confidently so.
A few more days like that and I´ll be a happy man. Really in the right
frame of mind of mind now to really start going for stuff. I´ve even been
entertaining the idea of trying a back loop, given the opportunity....
Bring it on.
